Dianjiang Orphanage
Colorful walls at the orphanage
Just visiting!
with Director Dai
Dianjiang city
Nannies in the baby room
Today (Wednesday) we visited Nina's former orphanage. It is 2 hours aways from the city. We met with the director, Dai, and Li, whom we saw on Sunday. Nina was not interested in going back to them and would not even let them hold her! We saw the room that she stayed in when she was first there. There are currently 17 children at the orphanage, all babies, and 39 more in foster care. It seemed as though the nannies cared for the children well, given the primitive conditions. There was no heat in the building. They just bundle up the children very well. There is a play area that the children use with lots of colorful toys.
Dai and Li took us out to lunch at a local restaurant and then said goodbye to Nina. From her reaction, she seemed very content to leave with us.

It sounds like you three have bonded well. It's a pleasure to be able to share your experiences!
all I can say is 'beautiful', the moment, the child, your new family!
It's great to be here on Cape Cod reading about your adventure in China. Reading about your day, I was struck with how Nina knows who will give her all of their attention. She is no longer one of 17.
And I am hungry reading about all of your wonderful meals together.
Dad
It is so great that everything is going so well - I am so happy for all of you!! Joanna - it was so strange to see a picture of you on the Great China Wall, but it is great that you've gotten to see so much. I could ask you work related questions, but I will restrain myself. Suffice it to say that I really miss having you at the other end of 4832!
I loved seeing pictures of the oprphanage. It looks quite nice. I also enjoyed hearing that Nina did not want to go back with the director and/or nanny there. Sounds like she's making the attachment. After all look at all the love and holding she is getting from you two. Love, Mom
